Striving to make community theater the best it can be
Box Office & Info: 815-239-1210
Dear Friends of Pec Playhouse! Doing what we do best, we are kicking off a new season at Pec Playhouse Theatre! It will be a season of great shows, fundraising and rebuilding. First, based on the votes of our patrons to celebrate our 30 years of community theatre, we are bringing back the hilarious“Escanaba in da Moonlight” by Jeff Daniels. This show has been a sellout in previous years and is sure to be a hit this time around under the artful direction of Pecatonica native and veteran of movies and television, Jesse “Tom” Dabson. We have developed a welcoming partnership with Seward Park District and will have 9 performances at Seward School Center 2970 Tracy St. Seward, IL 61107. The facility is completely handicap accessible and there is plenty of parking next to the Center. “Escanaba in da Moonlight” can be seen Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm and Sunday afternoons at 2pm November 5th-21st, 2021. General admission tickets are available on our website at or by calling the box office at 815-239- 1210. “Escanaba in da Moonlight” is our first formal effort in producing plays since being impacted by closings caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and a storm that damaged our beloved theatre building and auditorium. This show puts us back on track toward raising funds and raising the roof on a brand new theatre! Pec Playhouse anticipates that rebuilding a new theatre will realistically be a seven-figure fundraising project. So far, PPT has completed some strategic planning into what will be needed and completed site visits to other regional theatre companies (of similar size) to evaluate affordable building options for its new space. The board of directors has also secured an architectural firm and are expecting preliminary drawings which will help provide a more definitive fundraising goal. So far, PPT has raised just over $80,000 in donations which will supplement our insurance reimbursement. PPT has also been able to secure a $10,000 grant through the Rockford Area Arts Council which will assist in defraying our upcoming production costs. Thanks to the generous time and talent of our dedicated volunteers, PPT has been able to raise funds through salvaging the contents of the old theatre and saving the cost of replacing items. Together PPT volunteers have logged over 500 hours in clean up, preservation and storing theatre contents. In addition, through the generosity of donated space from the Village of Pecatonica, Pec Playhouse has been able to preserveand store most of the contents from the damaged theatre. If you have volunteered or contributed so far, thank you, thank you! The original plan of the PPT Board of Directors, (announced in a public meeting earlier this year), was to simply rebuild a new handicap accessible community centered building and theatre on its current site after razing all existing and damaged buildings. Unfortunately, that plan was stalled and the future location of the new Pec Playhouse Theatre facility is yet to be determined because of a new moratorium on demolishing buildings in the Village of Pecatonica. However, because the auditorium portion of the theatre property was condemned and PPT would risk losing all insurance reimbursement from the damage by not meeting the insurance company’s required demolition and clean- up deadline, PPT was granted a waiver to proceed with demolition of the theatre only portion of the property. The former granary and the attached shed are still under moratorium and will not be razed. Demolition has been scheduled to begin in early October. Meanwhile, the PPT board of directors’ asset team continues to evaluate affordable options for the new theatre structure and location. Pec Playhouse has a proven 30-year track record for profitable performances and events which is critical as we raise funds to rebuild. After “Escanaba in da Moonlight,” the next PPT production our patrons voted to see is “Steel Magnolias,” to be performed in early 2022. Please continue to follow our Facebook page and website for updates on performance dates, location, and tickets. We are also accepting donations on our website to help “Raise the Roof.” Please be sure to share with your friends! Watch for more updates on our building project, along with other events planned, as they become available through email, the PPT website and regular Facebook posts. Until then, we look forward to seeing you in beautiful Seward,Illinois for “Escanaba in da Moonlight.” As always, the show must go on! Pec Playhouse Board of Directors
